MI, Part 2

Part Two of our trip to MI has included a trip to Meijer Sculpture Garden. Meijer is the name of a major grocery chain in this area, very similar to Wal Mart Supercenters but much nicer and great selection. It kind of reminds me of the nicer HEBs in Texas. Apparently, Mr. Meijer bought a piece of land in this area for a store, and the residents didn't want it in their neighborhood, so he agreed to make it into a garden and got a cheaper plot of land from the county for his store.

Calvin provided dinner at the gardens and then we walked around for a bit. You will notice there aren't any pics of the Boo, because they also provided babysitting. She was the youngest of about 12 kids, and she did great, even though we didn't pick her up until an hour after her bedtime. Good to know she's becoming a bit more flexible now!

Over the summer, the Gardens are featuring the blown glass sculptures of a local artist, so you find them throughout. It was a beautiful place to spend the evening!

Looking back onto the main building where we had dinner
This is a sculpture called "Angry Mama". I tried to look angry, but I don't know that I succeeded.
The Children's Garden might be the best part. There are several fountains to play in, a maze and lots of little nooks and crannies to hide. Audrey would definitely enjoy that in a few years.
Cute sculptures in the children's area

I loved this little boat of flowers.
Cute little hut to sit in - wouldn't it be a great place to read a book?
In the main gardens - these are all blown glass

Mr. and Mrs. Meijer - he reminds us a lot of Mr. Beeson's statue at Samford
