Peabody Tea

Audrey's friend, Ermerson, turned four this week and invited us to her tea party at the Peabody hotel downtown. There were only four little girls, and Audrey was thrilled with the whole event. I have to admit, I loved it too! We had the dining room to ourselves for the entire time, and Audrey and I practiced "tea party" for a couple of days to prepare. When I encouraged her to use both hands to hold her tea cup, she reminded me that it isn't proper to hold tea with two hands!
The table was set!

Thrilled with her chocolate cake
This was Audrey's initial outfit, since we were told to dress like a princess, but it was itchy and the others were wearing normal party dresses too, so she was glad to get more comfy!

Audrey loved every single course. We started with various tea sandwiches (which most of the girls didn't care for, but Audrey cleaned her plate!) Then, we moved to cinnamon scones with clotted cream and jam. She loved it and insisted on spreading her own. We finished with an assortment of small desserts: cream puffs, carrot cakes, cheesecakes, and chocolate. The girls still wanted to know where the cake was, so the waiter brought out a large chocolate cupcake that the girls split. One of the girls crept over to a server and asked if there were any cookies in the back, and she surprised all of us with Peabody duck cookies wrapped in plastic bags. Oh, and Audrey loved her chocolate strawberry tea with cream and a sugar cube. Please notice that Audrey is sitting at the table alone. That is because she insisted on finishing every course and realized that her chocolate cake wasn't done while Emerson was unwrapping her presents. She had to head back to the table to finish.
