Maine

 After our great weekend in Richmond, celebrating my cousin Elise and Matt's wedding, we traveled up to Maine (most of my wedding pics were on my phone and were posted on my FB page.) David had a conference in Kennebunkport towards the end of the week, so we flew in a few days early to see different parts of the state. Many thanks to Grandmother and Granddaddy for keeping our girls in such wonderful care as we traveled! Every time we called, they were having a fabulous time.

 We started out in Bar Harbor, the home of Acadia National Park. It's a beautiful park with mountains and surrounded by a rocky coastline. Memorial Day weekend is the start of the season there, so it wasn't very crowded, and we had perfect 60 degree weather.

 Some people were bold enough to get in the water, but we stayed away. Much too cold for our Southern toes.

 After a couple of days  in Bar Harbor, we traveled to Camden which is a quaint traditional New England town. We stayed at a beautiful B&B called the Hawthorn Inn. Unfortunately, it was pretty rainy, so I didn't get too many great pictures in Camden.

We traveled to Kennebunkport for David's conference and stayed at the Colony Hotel which was a trip back in time. The hotel was built in 1914 and has retained its history throughout the years. There are no TVs in the guestrooms; instead, there are large open parlors and patios encouraging guests to visit with one another. The lobby is large and paneled with dark wood and the dining room waiters have tiny little scrapers to get crumbs off of the white tablecloth between your meal courses! The rooms have white linens and bold Waverly wallpaper, pedestal sinks and dark furniture. As I was walking up the staircase to our room one night, I thought about the diary that my grandmother kept of a trip to New York around 1939 and felt like I was almost back in that day.

 The village is small and friendly, and they are very proud of their lobsters. David and I decided we are probably more shrimp folks, but at least we tried them!

 The Bush compound is also located in Kennenbunkport. There is a security gate, but there are several pull off points along the road to take pictures.
