The Big One!

We celebrated Audrey's first birthday this Saturday at our house. We had a great time celebrating, not only her life, but the community we have with so many friends and family members. We celebrated with Audrey's favorite color - pink and pink - (kind of like "blush and bashful" from Steel Magnolias.) Lots of polka dots, balloons, and tissue pom poms decorated the house along with polka dot cupcakes. We asked guests to bring a favorite book, since that has become one of Audrey's favorite activities. It was a great day - she was cheery the whole afternoon, even though she didn't take much of an afternoon nap - and lasted until about 8:30 at night. We are so thankful for our sweet girl!

The cake stands are all different pieces from David's grandmothers. It was special to have them "with us" in a way.

She loves the balloons.
Cake time - We were a little worried about how she would respond to everyone singing to her. She's extremely sensitive to loud noises. She was actually fine during the singing, but the candle was a little heavy and tipped over (while lit!) onto the floor. Luckily, it went out on the way to the floor, but everyone definitely gasped. That was what scared her and she started screaming crying. (See below).
This was the reaction. Luckily, we were able to light it again and try for a second time. She got the hang of licking the icing and started working her way through it.
Mommy had to encourage her to take real bites.

She eventually got the hang of it, but she was very dainty. We watched for about 10 minutes and then decided we would be there until her second birthday, if she kept up the same pace!
