July 4th

We celebrated Independence Day at the Zionsville festival. We are really fortunate to only live about five minutes from a great little downtown area with cobblestone streets, ice cream shops, antique stores and restaurants. There is a huge Lions Park with several fields and playgrounds, and July 4th is one of their biggest celebrations.
Look closely...the girls are on the front steps waiting to leave.

Audrey heard there would be a watermelon eating contest, and she was convinced she was going to win. She and K were one of about thirty people in the contest. The funniest part was when she asked David to cheer extra loudly for her about halfway through. She was taking tiny little nibbles, and about a minute into it, she told him, "Daddy, I may not win but I think I will get second and that's still pretty good." (She didn't win..first or second or third or...) The photo above was taken before time was started on the contest. Notice Kathryn has already taken a few bites!

Ready to eat!

She didn't win but she was still chewing on that watermelon when they came back to our picnic spot.
